episode X
Due to illness i ended up doing nothing for a couple days then crunched the finish line. In the end I decided to do polish rather than make a longer level (or multiple levels) as I had originally intended. I think I made the right choice in the end ... I felt a lot better once all the audio was in especially the music which I pulled from my library of royalty free stuff from humble bundles.
Having a teammate do the sound effects and vocal recordings really helped me out, I probably saved a good 4-6 hours digging around doing this myself and they were cool so yay.
A lot of the final day was working on my shaders, getting 'the darkness' to look good and messing with lighting. Shaders were kind of my 'thing' for this jam, i always like to pick a thing to learn about ... this time it was shaders.
Adding the end sequence was something I decided to do about 3/4 through the night and im very glad I did... I think it wraps the game up nicely and was better time spent than just making the level longer.
The main things I would like to have done were:
The player shader had to be simplified and i didnt get to go and fix it back up (it was supposed to be flickery/distorted)
Wanted more level... but especially I meant to go add a tutorial section for buttons so the first button you encountered would be right next to a door and be obvious.
No audio for the light beams, sad
My experiment using only AI art was interesting and I think fairly successful, there are ways to get the AI to do things more useful for this kind of game art that I learned as I went along (such as feeding it images of box shapes to get it to generate platforms inside those boundaries) and overall matching colours and such for a cohesive look wasnt too hard. I'll definitely play with this idea more in future. AI generation is definitely the future of concept art, if you're new to the industry, look into it.
Overall though, given I think I spent under 30 hours total on the project (plus whatever time AJ spent on the audio) not a bad little game.
